Spring 2012
DAY-SCHOOL:Through the Glass ceiling– 20th century women artists
From Manet to Matisse
In mid-19th century France, the creative avant-garde began to challenge the academic conservatism of the Salon. The result was an explosion of artistic ideas that embraced modernity and proved inspirational to artists throughout the western world. Manet’s reaction against the Salon fuelled a rebellion that led, to the paintings of Cezanne and Matisse.
This course will focus on the artworks produced by these ideas as they fomented in the creative artistic communities of Paris and provincial France.
Christine Musgrave is making a good recovery and wishes to thank everybody for their good wishes.
