Theology & Biblical Studies
Autumn 2011
Genesis from Adam to Abraham
A talking snake, a floating zoo, the original skyscraper and the first monotheist all appear in the opening chapters of the Bible. The stories in Genesis 1-18 form a fascinating collection and this course explores their origins, their theological meaning and the ways in which these texts have been understood down the ages
Please bring a bible.

The Last Judgement
Michael Tunnicliffe and Christine Musgrove
"Armageddon looms" scream the newspapers. The Maya calendars say 21 December 2012 is the day. Why have civilisations been so fascinated with the doomsday scenario? The course examines in words and pictures how a variety of cultures in different time periods have thought about the end of things. As well as the Judaeo-Christian tradition this course will examine the views of other less well known groups.
